Player Divisions

In order to ensure teams are equally competitive, the 9-10, 11-12 & 13-14 divisions hold tryouts to determine the player's skill level before they are drafted onto a team. All registered players will be placed on a team regardless of skill level. Hitting, catching, throwing and running will be evaluated. All new players and previous Babe Ruth players moving up to a new division are required to attend tryouts. Players who are required to be at tryouts but do not attend will be randomly assigned to a team if space is available.
 
 

13-15 Year Old Player Division
This is our highest competition division and is played on our largest field. Typically, a 13-14-15 division player will have played several years of baseball in our lower divisions and should have mastered the fundamentals of batting, base running, fielding and throwing. This division has two seasons to allow players to also play for their high school baseball teams. Game scores are kept and standing are reported on the Tracy Babe Ruth website. Trained umpires enforce Babe Ruth Baseball and Local Board Adopted Rules. A post-season tournament will determine an overall champion team. The top team(s) will receive placement trophies. An 13-14 division All Star Team will be selected to represent Tracy Babe Ruth Baseball in Tournament play.
 
 

11-12 Year Old Player Division
This is our intermediate level competition division. Players will work on and use advanced fundamentals of baseball such that they sharpen their pitching techniques, playing position , defensive pre-pitch preparedness, live batting, and aggressive base running. Game scores are kept and standing are reported on the Tracy Babe Ruth website. Trained umpires enforce Babe Ruth Baseball and Local Board Adopted Rules. A post-season tournament will determine an overall champion team. The top team(s) will receive placement trophies. An 11-12 division All Star Team will be selected to represent Tracy Babe Ruth Baseball in Tournament play.
 
 

9-10 Year Old Player Division
Players will work on and use basic fundamentals of baseball such that they improve their pitching techniques, playing positions, defensive pre-pitch preparedness, live batting, and aggressive base running. This is player pitched and specific pitching rotation rules are enforced. Game scores and standing are kept and reported on the Tracy Babe Ruth website. Trained umpires enforce Babe Ruth Baseball and Local Board Adopted Rules. The top teams will receive placement trophies. A 9-10 division All Star Team will be selected to represent Tracy Babe Ruth Baseball in Tournament play.
 
 

7-8 Year Old Player Division
This is our first competition level division where players are focused the intense world of competitive baseball. Players are educated on the essentials of baseball such that they are coached in the specific playing position and will improve their skills in throwing, catching, batting, defensive ready position and running the bases. Game scores and standing are kept and reported on the Tracy Babe Ruth website.Players will pitch through-out season. All players on the team will bat in a continous order and are guaranteed to play at least 2 innings of defense a game. Games last approximately 1 and 1/4 hours, with each team allowed 3 outs or 3 runs per inning. A 7-8 division All Star Team will be selected to represent Tracy Babe Ruth Baseball in Tournament play.
 
 

5-6 Year Old Player Division
This is an instructional division where players are still learning what baseball is all about. Many of the 6 year olds have probably played before and some of the 5 year olds played in the 4 year old division last year - but for a lot of players, this will be their first time playing baseball. The 5 - 6 division starts the first half of the season with players receiving four pitches from their coach and two Tee swings with no outs. During the second half of the season, the players hit the ball pitched by their coach and can get out at any base. Time permits approximately two innings of play and all players bat. Every offensive player bats each inning regardless of outs and no player sits on defense. Players are taught the fundamentals of baseball such that they are exposed to playing positions and are taught throwing, catching, batting, defensive ready position and running the bases. All players in the 5 - 6 year old division receive participation trophies at the end of the season.
 
 

4 Year Old Player Division
This is an instructional division (no score is kept) where players begin to learn about baseball. Very likely, most of the players have never played baseball before and perhaps never been exposed to a team sport. During the entire season, all the players will be hitting off a Tee and no one gets out. For safety and insurance purposes, the players will be using a foam bat. Every offensive player bats each inning regardless of outs and no player sit on defense. Players are taught the fundamentals of baseball - throwing, catching, batting, defensive ready position and running the bases. All players in the 4 year old division receive participation trophies at the end of the year.
